There are many options to consider here. Although Jarrow Woodcraft deal primarily with wood, there are many different materials that can complement your staircase. Some of the options to consider are, wood, glass, wrought iron GPR products stainless steel handrail, posts and spindles (ballustrading) etc.
You can even combine materials, for example you could have a wooden staircase and handrail, with wrought iron balustrades (these are the parts that join the stairs to the handrail) . It is worth considering the décor in the rest of the home, how much traffic will be going up and down. Generally it is one of the most used passageways in your home.
Space is a big deciding factor when choosing a staircase. Are you trying to save as much floor space as possible? Would you prefer to have less floor space if it meant a larger staircase? Will you be able to move your larger pieces of furniture up and down? How much headspace will you want? We have over 30 years’ experience answering these questions so feel free to get in touch.
Generally, a stair with a U or L shape are considered to be the safest. This means that should somebody have an accident there are fewer steps. It can be an important factor where children or mobility impaired people will be using them. There are fewer steps to fall. A landing mid-way up a staircase gives a change of direction and for older people a rest period…worth considering.
